Crossing the Langebro Bridge into Amager one sunny day (August 17 2003), I discovered a swimming pool erected inside the canal. There were many children playing, stunning blonde women in bikinis sunning on the grassy shore, multiracial soccer games and an overabundance of overweight, but nonetheless cheerful Danes.Iddylic sunny conditions in Copenhagen in the northern summer of 2003After leaving the pool, I ventured into a beautiful wooded area nearby, along the banks of the Stadsgraven. Eventually I emerged on the Torvegade, where I took this picture looking towards the golden Vor Frelsers Kirke.
I was lucky to visit Copenhagen in the middle of the hottest summer in 30 years (2003), so I probably saw it at its best. It definitely has a charm of its own, though many travellers were quick to write it off.
