There are two sectors of the Australian workforce: the public sector, and the private sector. The public sector is employed by the federal, state or local governments. A doctor working at a public hospital, for example, is participating in the public sector. If that doctor set up his own practice, however, he would be working for the private sector.

Australia has significant natural gas deposits, mostly in the west. The east coast, meanwhile, is all coal. In recent years, renewable energy projects have been launched both on and offshore.
