I was able to satisfy a childhood dream and visit Denmark and Iceland in 2003, and my arrival there coincided with one of the most glorious summers in living memory.
After perhaps my longest and most tortorous plane journey ever -- from Tokyo to Singapore for a 7-hour stay, and then a night flight to Denmark -- I arrived in Copenhagen to find myself astounded by the weather. Before too long, I was suffering from sunburn! I was also looking forward to meeting my old friend, Louise, a Dane, and the meeting took place late in the afternoon near this canal at Nyhavn.
